History of Horse Alley

The news is out! Dusty Shutt is opening a new location! In our last blog, we told you when (October 6th, for First Friday Art Walk) and where (Horse Alley Studio, 2425 ¾ Colorado Ave in Old Colorado City), and a little about its Old West history (horses were tied in Horse Alley to keep streets clean and tidy). Now here’s a little about its more recent history!

Horse Alley Studio was originally a shoe repair shop. The building owner rented out what is now Arati Gallery as a storefront and lived upstairs, in what is now Janeen’s Antiques. The owner ran his small shoe repair shop in Horse Alley. In 1975, half of the 100 buildings along Colorado Ave were empty, and a major renovation of the street took place, with 2425, 2435 ½, and 2425 ¾ being part of the first building reconstructions in 1979.

Dusty Shutt Silver now occupies Horse Alley Studio, a space with rich history, and we are honored to continue its full tradition of providing service and community. And we are here to further our well-known reputation for designing and creating unique jewelry with Colorado high country flair.

Come say hello on October 6th and check out our new place! Whether you’re looking for a new piece, looking to redesign an existing piece, or just looking, we are here to help. And if we don’t have what you want, we can make it for you! Don’t forget to shop Dusty Shutt Silver for all of your gift needs, too. We love jewelry and we love living and working in this amazing community…and we can’t wait to meet you!
