Description

This Sterling silver pendant, fused with 24K Gold foil created from a 1 gram Suisse Credit catches the eye. Known as Keum Boo, it is an ancient Korean sword gilding technique. The pendant, patterned with Cherry Blossoms, features 3mm Sleeping Beauty Turquoise stones. Patina darkened Cherry Blossoms bring out their design. Thus, these touches make this pendant one of our signature pieces.

The Stone

Sleeping Beauty Turquoise, revered and highly sought after due to its pure sky blue color shows very little to no veining or webbing. Hence, it has made a great impact on the history of Turquoise over the years. For this reason, and the fact that the Arizona Mine recently closed in the fall of 2012, the Turquoise has jumped in value. Because of this, it now sells for prices simular to it’s high grade counterparts from Nevada, USA.

The Zachary process enhances the Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. Tests show that this process helps improve a stone’s ability to take a good polish. Yet, the process may or may not improve a stone’s color. Most important, this process allows the stones to be listed as natural stone.

Symbolism

  • Turquoise represents Leadership, Friendship, Serenity and Loyalty
  • Silver represents Grace, Confidence, Sensitivity and Grounding
  • Gold represents Success, Virtue and Divine Love
  • Cherry Blossoms symbolize Love, Joy, Hope, Optimism and Humility

Why Turquoise?

The following quote from Turquoise, Water, Sky: The Stone and It’s Meaning exhibit in Sante Fe, NM, expresses the Shutts’ feelings toward the stone.

“Turquoise stands for water and for sky, for bountiful harvests, health and protection,” said Maxine McBrinn, Curator of Archaeology at the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture. “Blue-green symbolizes creation and the hope for security and beauty. These ideas were so important that if the stone was not available, its color was represented through other methods.”
